About Us
Betty & The Brands is a thoughtfully curated, multi-brand permanent store that brings together a unique selection of globally sourced, sustainable fashion and lifestyle products. We offer brands the opportunity to “pop up” within our store for one to three months, alongside those with a permanent presence. This mix creates a dynamic and evolving retail environment where innovation and sustainability come together, allowing both emerging and established brands to thrive.
Our store is built on strong ethical principles, offering a transparent platform that empowers conscious consumers whilst providing designers and makers the space to connect with their customers. We showcase every facet of sustainability - from new collections using sustainable and certified materials, to up-cycled and vintage pieces - ensuring a diverse and responsible shopping experience.
As the retail landscape rapidly transforms, more consumers are bypassing traditional channels, seeking direct connections with brands that resonate with their values. This is where we step in—facilitating a new, symbiotic system rooted in sustainability, creativity, transparency, and integrity.
OUR ETHOS:
We aim to grow a community of ethical brands and conscious consumers, working together to transform the retail industry and make a positive impact on the world. Our vision is to shape a future where every element of the retail process is as fair, accessible and regenerative as possible.
Betty and The Brands is bridging the gap between conscious consumers and the next generation of independent brands by addressing the growing demand for sustainable and ethically produced fashion. Our innovative platform serves as a crucial link, connecting discerning customers with emerging brands that excel in sustainability, ethical production, and conscious design.
We provide a platform that showcases and supports brands who are making these positive moves and leading by example. The future of retail is changing and we want to help conscious brands and consumers be part of that change. Customers crave variety and intriguing concept stores that showcase a diverse range of brands. We understand the importance of providing them with a compelling reason to visit and are here to curate these experiences.
PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE:
The core team at Betty & The Brands has deep roots in sustainable fashion and a proven track record of nurturing emerging talent. Our journey began in 2009 with the launch of Brighton Fashion Week, which quickly became a global platform dedicated to supporting designers at the forefront of ethical fashion. Brighton Fashion Week offered invaluable opportunities and experiences to those pushing the boundaries of sustainable design.
Over the years, Brighton Fashion Week evolved into a cornerstone for designers seeking visibility and support in an industry undergoing significant transformation. We had the honour of showcasing and supporting 700 designers from 30 countries, helping them gain recognition on the global stage.
While Brighton Fashion Week is no longer on the catwalk, it planted the seeds for our current venture—Betty & The Brands—where we continue our mission of nurturing innovation and sustainability in the fashion world.
OUR PLAN:
Building on our successful pop-ups, we are thrilled to announce the launch of our permanent boutique store at 6 Hanningtons Lane, Brighton. This new space will serve as a long-term retail destination for sustainable fashion enthusiasts while preserving the flexibility and dynamic nature of our original concept.
Our boutique features a rotation of permanent areas for established brands, alongside rotating pop-ups that introduce new brands, collections, and seasonal themes. This approach ensures we continually provide fresh and engaging experiences for our customers while offering valuable opportunities for emerging brands.
PREVIOUS POP UP:
We have a portfolio of successful pop-ups, starting with our six-week residency in 2014, where we showcased 58 designers on rotation in South Lane.
In May 2024, we test-launched Betty and The Brands in partnership with The Fair Shop, featuring 15 sustainable brands on a rotational basis. The response was overwhelmingly positive, with an influx of brands eager to participate, underscoring the demand for spaces that foster a conscious and regenerative retail community.
Central to our ethos is the connection between makers and consumers, challenging unconscious consumerism and nurturing a new, symbiotic system rooted in creativity and integrity. As part of the launch, we held a successful series of “Meet the Maker” events between May and June 2024, inviting customers to engage directly with designers and their products
TESTIMONIALS:
What some of our brands and partners said about our recent pop up at The Fair Shop:
“I am thrilled to be partnering with Betty & The Brands! As an independent designer and maker, the fair shop pop up is an incredible opportunity to present my collection in person and engage directly with customers. I founded Lavey London in 2021 and my commitment is to crafting heirloom-quality pieces using sustainable materials and ethical practices every step of the way. All my designs are crafted locally from solid recycled gold and lab-grown diamonds.” [Lauren, Lavey London]
“Being part of Betty & the Brands pop-up and showcasing my collection alongside other sustainable and slow fashion designers is truly an amazing opportunity. Prioritising slow fashion and sustainability isn't a trend... It's a way of life—a commitment to producing less, creating enduring items, and prioritising quality craftsmanship. It's a call for all of us to drive change through our actions and choices. We all need to be the change." [Nyny Ryke]
“Sustainable, stylish, and locally made, we craft each garment in-house, reducing dead stock and utilising fabric scraps for accessories. Our fabrics are responsibly printed in the UK with Oeko-Tex standard inks.. we plant a tree to offset carbon emissions..(and are) powered partly by solar energy. Through pop-ups, like this one in Brighton, we connect with customers who value independent brands committed to the environment. I’m excited to share our creations with a broader audience." [Isabelle Pennington, recipient of The King's Foundation's 2024 Young Entrepreneur Award]
We’re so excited for this opportunity to get our products physically in front of people in such a vibrant location!”[Allume Home]
